Job Shadow Report
For my first job shadow, I went to the Stock Exchange bank to shadow Mark Arnold. Mark is the CEO/Vice Chairman of the bank and is also a loan officer. To start off, Mark showed me the process of giving people loans and some of the forms people have to fill out to apply for a loan. He also explained to me how it is difficult to turn down someone’s loan application, especially in a small town because sometimes people take it personally. Next, he took me to Shelbie Fitch, who is the credit analyst for the bank. She showed me how she does data entry and how to determine if somebody had good credit by looking at their application. Then, I went to Shannon Kuehny, who is one of the bank tellers. She showed me how she balances out all of the debits and credits of the bank. Shannon also took me into the vault and showed me all of the money, which was pretty cool. After all of this, Mark told me how he got into banking and what he did in college. We also talked about some of the career paths I could take to maybe become a banker one day. I really learned a lot from this job shadow.I learned how the loan process works, how to analyze that process, and then how to balance out all of the finances of the bank. I really learned a lot from Mark because he has a cool story about how he got into banking and has a lot to share about that. The reason I went to this job shadow was because it was on my career report and I am interested in going into this field.
For my second job shadow, I went to Tulsa University to shadow Bryant Tyler. Bryant is the Assistant Athletic Director for Ticket Operations and Revenue Generation, and is from Caldwell. First, I got to sit in on a meeting between all of the department heads about letting people into the softball game a little early if they are donors. This was very cool because I got to watch them debate back and forth about it, and it was real life. Next, he took me on a tour of the facilities. First was the football stadium. He took me up to the presidential suite and the press box, then we walked down on the field. Then, we went to the basketball arena. In the basketball arena, we went and saw the weight room, the volleyball locker room, the women’s basketball locker room, and the men’s basketball locker room. The men’s locker room was really cool, it had a kitchen, a lounge room with a playstation 4, and a film room. To end the day, Bryant explained how he got to Tulsa and what he did through college. This career wasn’t on my career report but the reason I went was because I am considering going into this field.

Career Report
Over the last couple of years, I have really found my interest in the business field. So far, I have looked at finance and administration for my careers. My grandfather has his own accounting firm here in Caldwell, and I have been working with him this past year. He really loves it and makes good money doing it. A few of the career choices that Career Cruising had for me were a bank manager, stock broker, and an investment banker. I wouldn’t have a problem with any of these options so I’d say Career Cruising did all right.
To get a bachelor's degree in general business management, I will need to complete four years of college and 122 credit hours at the University of Oklahoma. After that, I will probably get my masters as well to get a better job. Annually, it would cost around $35,000 for a bachelor's degree and $9,000 for a masters at OU. I am currently taking an online college business course through Cowley County Community College, and am doing well with it. In the past, I have taken business essentials, business management, and accounting in high school. I was just attracted to business right away and plan to stick with it.
The median annual salary for a business administration job range is anywhere from $60,000 to $150,00 annually, in Oklahoma. However, as you work your way up the ranks, you can make well beyond that number. An accountant supposedly makes anywhere from $40,000 to $75,000, but I know a man that makes a lot more than that. The reason I looked at Oklahoma’s salary is because I plan on living in the OKC/Norman area after I obtain my education and even while I go to college.

A Bump in the Road
Life is full of challenges, so I will be talking about one of the challenges I have went through. During my freshman year football season, I partially tore the hamstring in my right leg. It was the second game of the season when I tore it, but it had been pulling up on me in practice for at least two weeks before then. The doctor said I would be out for at least six weeks and that was terrible news for me. This event was a huge challenge for me because I didn’t get to play the sport I loved with my brothers, and I really couldn’t be active at all. If you know me, you know I am constantly doing something. Whether it be productive or not, I always need to be moving around.
With the injury that I had, you really need to stay off of it as much as possible if you want it to heal fast. So, I was forced to sit at home most of the time and that really sucked. Sitting out really took a toll on me mentally and physically. Mentally, I felt really depressed and down all the time because I just felt worthless. Physically, this took a toll on me that I had never experienced before.
My hamstring hurt a lot, but the other parts of my body started hurting as well. I just assumed that it was happening because I wasn’t moving very often. Also, I had stomach pains to where I always felt nauseous to the point where I would vomit. I figured I was having these pains because I completely lost my appetite when I was told I wouldn’t be able to play for a while. While sitting out, I believe I lost about eight pounds because I wasn’t eating.
I ended up getting to come back about five weeks after I sat out, and it was a very long five weeks. The doctors said my hamstring would probably be balled up for a long time. They were right because it is still balled up to this day, and it still likes to pull up on me sometimes. This injury may have sucked, but I still like to find the positives in it. For instance, I’m thankful that this happened to me as early in my high school career as it did because I learned that any play can be your last play in sports. It made me realize that I needed to stop taking sports for granted and cherish them while I can still play. If it had happened to me later in my career, I don’t think I would’ve cherished it as much as I do now.
In conclusion, this injury was a very challenging moment in my life, but I believe it was a blessing in disguise and it helped me in the long run.
